Summary
The RESCUE project will develop a specialized device for ex vivo eye maintenance that will allow functional recovery and preservation of human eyes for whole-eye transplantation. The project will establish disruptive strategies to preserve the eye globe for transplant-relevant periods, while maintaining a segment of the optic nerve. The final aim of RESCUE is to validate the functionality of the finalized medical device that can preserve procured eyes and monitor their viability until transplantation with the combined expertise of a multidisciplinary team.
